Breath & Gentle Movement
Description
How busy our world is can overwhelm the human mind and body which is why it is so important that we tap into our built-in stress management system once every day. When it comes to meditation, regularity is much more impactful than duration.
Humans have multiple parts of the nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the ‘fight or flight response.’ This means that the sympathetic nervous system is engaged when we detect a threat or are in a stressful situation. Unfortunately, many people in this fast-paced, modern world get stuck in a sympathetic state. When you think about it, our bodies are hundreds of thousands years old, built upon evolving intelligent design. Our bodies are ancient. Then, when you consider the lifestyle we live today- restaurants, cars, internet, phones, and all the things that we consider so normal- you can see how this is new and overwhelming to the human mind and body. This is why so many people get stuck in an activated, sympathetic nervous system state. By meditating for simply 3 minutes, you are able to switch from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state. This is referred to as the ‘rest and digest’ nervous system as it relaxes an individual.
Your yoga practice will bring the greatest benefit when it is customized for your mind and body. Ayurveda teaches us the best way to practice for each unique body.
The ability to meditate is innate to every human, we just have to learn how to access it.
